I tend to pulse prime my wicks. Even if I forget to do this it just takes a few pulls to eliminate cotton taste. Never really been an issue for me. Yeah. lol
Maybe I’m wrong and cloudpaks wick isn’t rayon. Only review I can find at the moment. Lazy Tony doesn’t do the wick justice though, if you're... lazy on the wick prep you will get his “yuck” results. He classified it as cotton. That said, I remember disussions in other forums decided this stuff was in fact rayon. I don’t remember researching further, their site no longer exists and their Facebook page is scarce. Maybe someone could help me compare against rayon?? Packaging says 100% organic fiber (same on reverse) Does it look similar to rayon (that’s one strip that started at ~3 ft)? It feels like it tightens as I hold it, almost as though you can feel the individual fibers rubbing together (if that makes sense). Any less than tight wicking and you will know that yuck flavor I mention above. Perfect wicking has no breakin taste and flavor is so clean and tasty. Slightly over wicked does have a break in taste. Excessive wick can shift coils easily as the fibers are strong. High time for a virtual trip to Pick up some “beauty products”. Guess I can’t go wrong at ~8 bucks to compare for myself.
I've never used rayon and was always worried about running it dry and not noticing. Has anyone ever gotten a chemical taste doing that?
Have you ever had a dry hit that burnt the rayon? I have a habit of not noticing when my tank goes empty.
I burn my wick at least once a week just to keep in practice. Wicking with rayon is different than cotton, cotton swells, rayon doesn't. Its a lil trickier than cotton, you want it to fit snug.
The thing with Rayon is if your wick gets dry you can tell it's dry even if it burns a little but after the wick gets wet again it comes right back with great taste even if burnt a little, with cotton once burned you never get rid of that taste. Rayon is very forgiving.
I use rayon and love it. I’ve heard some say it’s a synthetic but my understanding is it’s not a synthetic but natural and cleaner and safer than cotton. Also if it’s not wicked tight in the coil you get a terrible taste which I think some confuse for burnt rayon hit but it’s actual just burnt coil. You need to stuff the coil tight. Rayon wicks great when you get the feel for it and provides great flavor.
